In this week’s Throwback Thursday, Soccer Laduma looks back at when Rulani Mokwena shared a story about Khama Billiat and his jersey number at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ahead of the Soweto Derby last year, October, the Orlando Pirates assistant coach was full of praise for Billiat, after the duo worked together during their time at Sundowns.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game at the time, Mokwena shared a story about Billiat’s jersey number at Sundowns and how he set ‘unrealistic’ targets for his professional football career.
“I think Khama matured on his own, I think Khama is unbelievable because he is self-driven, I remember when Khama changed his jersey and wore jersey number 33 if I am not mistaken at Sundowns,” Mokwena told the media at the time.

“And I wasn’t even aware and the first match I saw him wear it, I said Khama, why are you wearing jersey number 33? He said, coach because I want to score 33 goals, I said Khama, that hasn’t been done in South African football for the last how many years and he says - that doesn’t mean that I can’t do it.
“So already that profiles the character, the person you are dealing with, a person who is self-driven and works hard in improving his game and setting unrealistic targets for himself,” Mokwena added.
