“They had no chance; there was one or two shots or one or two movements. I think, you can not say that we had a defensive structure, definitely not, I think it was the setup in the right way to position and really close the channels, close the second ball area and (at) the moment pick it up and play soccer,” Middendorp told the media after the game.
The Soweto giants came off the back of a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, with Middendorp revealing that he was happy with his team’s performance last night.
“It’s difficult to come out of a game on Saturday and three days later play the top team of the PSL.
“I am absolutely happy with the performance with the way we handled it today, not too emotional, clear structure, here and there a little bit of rushing in the first half.”
The German-born head coach then went on to comment about all the yellow card bookings during the encounter, with the Wits side having five of their players booked and Robyn Johannes sent off.
“Of course, if a team in the first 5-10 minutes already on 3 yellow cards, that tells you there’s a very clear approach, that’s soccer, there’s nothing wrong with it, to handle it, the referee is on the field,” he said.
