Young Ryan Moon, who joined the Glamour Boys from Maritzburg United last year, opened the scoring for Bafana Bafana on Saturday as they beat Botswana 2-0 in the first leg of their Chan qualifier, with the 20-year-old scoring in the 28th minute.
Moon was replaced in the second half by another youngster, Jamie Webber, but will have been happy to join the list of players to score in their first game for the South African national team.
The forward is expected to start once again this coming weekend as Stuart Baxter’s side look to finish the job in the second leg against the Zebras, and he will no doubt be keen to try and get himself on the scoresheet once again.
Meanwhile, Gustavo Paez grabbed a brace for the Amakhosi in the semi-finals of the Maize Cup as they beat Township Rollers, while George Lebese scored the winner in the final against Free State Stars.
Chiefs fans got to have their first glimpse of new signings, Teenage Hadebe, Bhongolethu Jayiya and Philani Zulu over the weekend, with Hadebe and Jayiya facing Rollers and Zulu starting against Stars.
