After Cristiano Ronaldo and new Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri were seen in a heated exchange when the coach substituted the superstar in the club's first pre-season friendly, the Italian has now revealed what he said.

The 34-year-old had just put his side 2-1 up against Tottenham Hotspur when he was replaced by Sarri in the 63rd minute of the match, which Juve ended up losing 3-2.

Ronaldo seemed visibly upset as he walked off and had a brief run-in with his new coach, who has since downplayed the situation.

"We agreed to let him play for an hour," Sarri said, as quoted by the Daily Star.

"Ronaldo asked me how much time he had left before coming off. I told him five to six minutes.

"At the time of his substitution, I only asked him how he was."

Sarri then went on to explain how he will try to get the best out of Ronaldo to make the difference for the Italian giants in the 2019/20 campaign.

"Cristiano won everything individually and collectively by shifting slightly to the left wing and then cutting inside," he added.

"My first attempt will be to start him in that position, but with his qualities, playing him 10 metres further in would not make a difference."

Ronaldo won two titles in his debut season at Juventus, scoring 28 goals and assisting another 10 strikes across all competitions.

It sounds more like a calm/polite exchange. It's not heated.
