Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in a heated altercation with new Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri as he was substituted moments after scoring in their first pre-season friendly.

The Italian manager replaced Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus, who left the club after five years at the helm. Sarri joined Juve following a one-year stint at Chelsea, but immediately clashed with his superstar in the first game.

Juve played Spurs in the International Champions Cup in Singapore on Sunday and Ronaldo had just put his team 2-1 ahead after Spurs took the lead in the first half and Gonzalo Higuain had levelled matters.

However, the Portuguese’s goal didn’t stop Sarri from replacing the forward just three minutes after his strike – with the 34-year-old seemingly not impressed as he walked off the pitch.

Sarri, though, did calm matters later, saying Ronaldo is the best player of his side.

“It was only the first match. Cristiano is the best player of our team of course,” the Italian tactician said in his post-match press conference, according to Eurosport.

“So I think that we have to organize very well. The other 10 for the defensive phase, but Cristiano can go everywhere on the pitch.

“He is the best player and for him it is very important to be free on the pitch.”

Spurs did end up turning the game around again following goals by Lucas Moura and a superb strike from the halfway line in the 93rd minute by Harry Kane.
