With Premier League outfit Liverpool reportedly keen on signing Spain international Marco Asensio, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has commented on the two-time UEFA Champions League winner's future.

The 23-year-old attacker agreed to join Los Blancos from Real Mallorca in December 2014, and has since enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the club, having won a LaLiga title, a Spanish Super Cup, two UEFA Super Cup titles, two Champions League medals as well as three FIFA Club World Cup trophies.

Much like the LaLiga giants this season, however, Asensio has experienced a dip in form in the 2018/19 campaign, culminating in the Spain international seemingly falling down the pecking order at the club.

As a result, the former Espanyol loanee has been linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, with a number of top European clubs reportedly monitoring his situation, most notably 2018 Champions League finalists Liverpool.

However, after completing his return to Real following the sackings of Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, Zidane has now dismissed claims that Asensio is poised to leave the club, reiterating that the midfielder forms an important part of his plans.

"I have spoken to him and told him that he will be fundamental to the team. And I want him here with us," the Frenchman told Marca.

Asensio has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Real so far this season, finding the back of the net on six occasions and being on hand to register five assists too.
