From the 10 second-round groups, five African nations will end up going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the winners of those groups will take on one another in home and away fixtures over two legs in the third round of qualifying.

So, which African nations are currently leading the way? In Group A, Burkina Faso are at the top with 10 points after four matches. Algeria, who take on Niger on Tuesday, are three points behind Burkina Faso with a game in hand.

Despite the strong qualifying campaign the Stallions have had, Riyad Mahrez and his Algeria teammates are still considered favourites to advance from the group.

Tunisia lead Group B, also with 10 points after four matches. The Eagles of Carthage are enjoying a brilliant run of form in these World Cup qualifiers, having not yet conceded a single goal.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast sit atop Groups C and D, respectively, while Mali and Mohamed Salah's Egypt are currently in pole position to make it out of the second phase of qualifying in Groups E and F. Then, Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana lead the way in Group G.

South Africa have picked up an impressive seven points in three matches and take on Ethiopia on Tuesday evening, where another three points are incredibly crucial. Meanwhile, second-placed Ghana are away in Zimbabwe. See which countries top every CAF World Cup qualifying group in the gallery above!
