South Africa could reportedly host the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in December after recent comments made by SAFA president Danny Jordaan.

Goal has reported that South Africa has thrown their name into the hat in a bid to host the iconic club competition later this year.

This is said to come after Japan pulled out of hosting the tournament due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in that country.

SAFA president Jordaan reportedly confirmed to the Associated Press that "we'll know our position by the end of the week" in response to whether or not SA could be in contention to host the Club World Cup.

It is further claimed that Jordaan is expected to meet Fatma Samoura, FIFA's secretary general, in Lagos, Nigeria, to discuss matters.

Soccer Laduma reached out to SAFA for comment, but has not yet received a reply.

What is the format of the Club World Cup and who will be competing in 2021?

The Club World Cup is a knockout tournament played by seven teams, including six continental champions and the host country's league winners from the previous season.

So far, the teams that have qualified to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup are UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea, CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly and Oceania FC-nominated side Auckland City.

Still to qualify are the 2021 Copa Libertadores winners, the AFC Champions League winners and the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League winners.

Here are some images of Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly in action against Bayern in the Club World Cup earlier this year:

That means Sundowns will be automatically qualified to the competition, so question this time around is what will they say, we entered in a back door, front door or sliding door, or worse part brown envelope?
