Bafana Bafana snuck into the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations after finishing third in Group D, behind Morocco and Ivory Coast.

The Stuart Baxter-led side won one of their three games, which was a 1-0 victory against Namibia. Now, they face a mammoth task on Saturday, July 6 as they take on the hosts, Egypt.

SportPesa Clubhouse column ambassador, Doctor Khumalo shed light on the national team and their participation so far.

Check out Doc Khumalo’s SportPesa Betting tips for this week

“Look, our group was always going to be a tough one because of the pedigree of some of the teams we were grouped with. Having said that, we have played these teams before and managed to hold our own against them. Morocco have not been giving us too many problems in the past although they are one of the disciplined and experienced teams. It is never easy playing against them, but what I don’t like about the North African teams is their tendency to buy time. They are masters of time-wasting, faking injuries and all that when they take the lead, but luckily none of that happened against Morocco. You can never beat the North Africans in that and I have played against them and therefore know exactly what I’m talking about.

“Tournaments are events where you don’t want to find yourself under pressure or depending on others to do you favours, when you had a chance to determine your own path. You need to do it for yourself because six points is all you need to ensure your progression and that’s not impossible. Look at Madagascar and how they managed to progress to the knockout stages against all odds! I did predict that they’d go through, but some people thought I was out of my mind when I told them that this Madagascar team will be a surprise package in this tournament. Look at them now.”

“16V” went on to talk about the overall tournament and his hopes for South Africa.

What is the main function of Neil Tovey as a Technical Director? By the look of things, he was appointed to sit behind closed doors, he is a waste of TD, there are better people than him who can do better
