In this week’s SportPesa Clubhouse column ambassador, Doctor Khumalo spoke out on the recent exit of the national U20 side from the FIFA World Cup tournament.

Amajita failed to win three of their matches on the world showpiece, with only one point in the bag. Khumalo went on to point out that the results against Argentina and Korea were not a true reflection of the game.

Check out Doc Khumalo’s SportPesa Betting tips for this week

“Our national U20 team have bowed out of the FIFA U20 World Cup, in the group stages, after losing two games and securing one draw. This might raise eyebrows to certain individuals out there, after losing 5-2 to Argentina, 1-0 to South Korea and played to a 1-1 draw against Portugal. To be honest, the Portugal game was the one I expected to be the toughest for us as I didn’t really see Argentina and Korea giving us too many problems. This is without undermining our opponents, but I really didn’t see us losing to those teams and doing so well against Portugal but, then again, when you look at what transpired in those games, you’ll agree with me that the scores were not a true reflection of the games. Look at the result against Argentina, which was a very important game.

“Losing 5-2 certainly didn’t tell the real story because we were much better than the result suggested. I thought we’d bounce back against Korea and improve on our performance from the opening match, it is a pity it wasn’t to be. I once spoke about player development and how to perfect development in this country. Yes, we always talk after the fact – which has become a norm in South Africa – where we wait for things to happen and then talk, whether right or wrong. This is something that needs to be rectified because we need to tackle it, if it is a problem, sooner rather than later.”

The former Bafana Bafana international went on to talk about other countries and their players who enjoy regular first team football as compared to the players in South Africa and the difference prevailed in Poland.
