The Premier Soccer League has today revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns have sent in written submissions as they continue to fight their guilty verdict on their use of an ineligible player, defender Wayne Arendse.

A sentencing was expected two weeks ago from the PSL disciplinary committee, but due to their busy travelling schedule the hearing was postponed.

Sundowns have been found guilty of fielding Arendse in their Absa Premiership home game against Bidvest Wits on October 7 last year. The player was initially not in the team sheet handed to match commissioner Mark Lindon an hour before kick-off, but following an injury to Thapelo Morena 15 minutes before the game, Downs called Arendse from the stands and straight into the starting line-up, which is a violation of Article 16.3.2 of the NSL handbook.

On Wednesday morning, PSL spokesperson Luxolo September provided the media with a brief update and indicated that the matter was of urgency to the league.

“I know most of the you (media) are waiting for finality on the matter between the league, Mamelodi Sundowns and Wayne Arendse, that is currently in front of the disciplinary committee. The latest on the matter is that all parties – the PSL, through our prosecutor Nande Becker and Sundowns – have since made written submissions to the disciplinary committee, summarising the evidence,” he said.

These affidavits would normally be handed in orally, added September.

“We are currently waiting the DC’s decision with regards to the sanction. So there will be no sitting, which means that the process will hopefully be finalised in due course,” he explained.

Downs jetted out to Morocco last night for their away CAF Champions League semi-final first leg clash against Wydad Casablanca on Friday.

My only issue with this debatle is, why so long as if we are preparing to sapoena the someone in the UAE countries to come and give evidence? The rule was broken and Downs found guilty, why toy around with the penalty? Is the PSL waiting for all games to be played then hand down the penalty? Micky mouse.
