In what sounded like a plea to be relived of his duties, Baroka FC coach Wedson Nyirenda told the media he would be “the happiest man” should he be sacked from his job with six games to go.
Bakgaga are currently deep in the relegation scrap with only four points separating them and bottom of the log side Maritzburg United, and Nyirenda – who bought himself time in the hot seat by winning the Telkom Knockout in December – is definitely feeling the heat.
“I don’t mind,” he said to journalists following a narrow 1-0 Absa Premiership defeat at home against Golden Arrows last night, where fans called for the former Kaizer Chiefs striker to be fired.
“I am employed by Baroka. If Baroka say I must go today, then I will be the happiest man – somebody else can come and do the job. I can have other things to do. I came here to help. I have helped them – if they think I am not good enough (anymore), then I will go and you shall see me again. We shall play them again. That’s how football is.”
He also suggested his players were lacking the determination to avoid the drop down to the lower division. “Sometimes the players are sensitive and it is sometimes good to keep quiet. You talk to them they don’t change,” Nyirenda said.
