Baroka FC have won automatic promotion to the PSL following a 1-1 draw with Milano United, Highlands Park secured second spot after hammering AmaZulu 4-1, while Mbombela United outwitted Cape Town All Stars 1-0 to grab that all-important third spot.

In addition, African Warriors and Moroka Swallows were relegated after losses to Thanda Royal Zulu and Witbank Spurs respectively.

Bakgaga, with the knowledge that a point would be sufficient for glory at Peter Mokaba Stadium, were given a hard time by Boebie Solomons’ charges, who deservedly took the lead just before half time via Mzwanele Mahashe.

Earlier, Thabiso Kutumela had his penalty brilliantly saved by Lee Langeveldt, however the league’s leading scorer later grabbed the equaliser (his 18th strike) to ensure a spot in the lucrative top-flight.

Meanwhile, at the Makhulong Stadium, Highlands Park overpowered AmaZulu 4-1 with goals from Cyprian Khambule, Sandile Khwela, Nicolas Boke and Mothiba Mvala to finish a point behind Baroka.

The Lions of the North, who missed so many opportunities, will now face third-placed Mbombela away on Wednesday in their first of four crucial play-off matches.

Three of Sunday’s games had little significance, including the Cape derby between Santos and FC Cape Town which the African Beats won 2-1.

The others that fell into this category were the clash between Vasco da Gama and Black Leopards in Parow, where the home side went down 1-0, while at Harry Gwala, Royal Eagles easily overcame Mthatha Bucks 3-1.

In the two relegation clashes, Thanda Royal Zulu saved their status with a narrow 3-2 victory over Warriors and Spurs thrashed Swallows 5-1.
