SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been subject to serious interest from both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. In light of the latest interest displayed, we take a look at how ‘Ronza’s’ value has increased over the last decade to make him the most expensive goalkeeper in the country. If there is anyone who embodies the term ‘one club man’ it is Williams. The Gelvandale-born keeper who turns 30 next week forms part of an elite list of 'one-club men', spending the last 18 years of his career at SuperSport where he has honed his skills to become the undisputed number one for both club and country As one the exemplary players in the country, it comes as little surprise that Ronza’s leadership qualities along with his professionalism has seen him don the armband for both Matsatsantsa and Bafana Bafana. As reported by the Siya crew last week, Williams is closer to leaving SuperSport, with both Sundowns and Pirates long-term admirers of the shot-stopper, with either Chloorkop or Parktown touted as his next possible destination. Evidence on the German website Transfermarkt.com, indicates that Williams’ stock has seen a rapid rise, from the time he made his debut as a teenager for the Tshwane outfit back in 2011, when he was valued at just €25 000 (±R438 000). After usurping Rowen Fernandez as the club’s number one in 2012, a 20-year-old Williams saw a spectacular spike in his market value to €250 000 (±R4,3m). As the trophies flowed in, so too did the interest in Williams’ service, with his stock steadily increasing, although SuperSport were resolute in holding onto their golden boy. As the captain of both SuperSport and Bafana Bafana, Williams sees his current market value standing at a resounding €1.2 million (±R21m), making him the most valuable keeper in Mzansi. With Williams’ future once again in the balance, it remains to be seen whether Sundowns or Pirates win the race for his coveted signature, with indications suitors would have to fork out a pretty penny for SuperSport to part ways with their star man after nearly two decades!
