Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy, said that he would not mind Victor Gomes officiating his side’s clash against Orlando Pirates next weekend.

The Citizens will welcome Pirates to the Athlone Stadium on May 04 in the penultimate Absa Premiership encounter of the season, where a win for the Bucs will take them even closer to the league title.

Speaking after last night’s disappointing encounter for McCarthy, the head coach admitted that with regards to their clash against the Buccaneers, he feels that a game of such magnitude should be officiated by someone like Gomes, adding that he is a ‘no nonsense’ match referee.

“After today, God help us… listen, like I said, Chippa, tough game away from home, Pirates, Black Leopards, Bloem Celtic and whatever the outcome is going to be, so four important games that can be crucial for us, that can help us to cement a place within the top ranks, top four, top three of the league because that’s the aim.

“But, when you see games like that and it is even further away from Pirates and that’s the kind of referee we are going to get so I don’t want to see what’s happening when we get Pirates,” McCarthy told the media.

“Not a big fan, but I hope they give Victor Gomes the match, one of the most experienced referees, take no nonsense from nobody so he would be ideal for somebody to handle a game of that magnitude. Pirates will need three points from us to maybe win the league or vice-versa…” he said.

City are currently fifth placed on the league standings, with three games left to be played, while also waiting to hear whether or not their abandoned fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic will be replayed or if the Citizens will be given the points.

Prepare well and go out and play regardless of who is or will be officiating on the day. The sad reality is we don't get to chose the middle man, others that i know will certainly not opt for Mr Gomes based on previous experiences.

Be careful of your wishes Benni, they may just be granted and this one is so unpredictable - this Gomes charecter. I just hope you don't come back complaining after the game with Gomes as the middle man. I said this legue is going to be won and lost due to officiating errors - you just wait and see.
