Thuso Phala is expected to be released from his SuperSport United contract – which is due to expire in June – before the end of this month.

Siya sources have informed the crew that the speedy winger has concluded his settlement negotiations with the Tshwane based club and will be free to leave following an agreement to pay him two months’ wages.

Phala, 32, faced an acrimonious end to his SuperSport stint in January when the crew first broke the news that he would be hauled before a disciplinary hearing by the club for off-the-field issues. Sources confirmed to the crew that the player did, in fact, manage to avoid this internal process, with the club and his management team choosing to instead discuss a settlement.

Phala was linked with a move away from the club while the transfer window was open in January, which, Siya sources said, the player was very keen on as he wanted to start afresh away from SuperSport.

The winger has made just 11 appearances in all competitions this season for Matsatsantsa but hasn’t kicked a ball for the first team since December 12 last year after he was sent to go train with the Multichoice Diski Challenge team (reserve side) subsequent to falling out of favour with management and the coach.

Sources say Phala is now likely to be free to walk away from a club he joined in 2013, contributed immensely to its success to date and made more than 150 appearances in that time.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews, who was quoted in the media recently saying Phala was the club’s highest paid player, could not be reached for comment. But the Siya crew understands that confirmation from the club is expected soon.

Lol i'd like to have him in the Ghostship bt we got so many young wingers who will give him hard time, so game time will be limited should we sign him. My best advise is 4 him to join Highlands Park as his style of play would suit the lions of the north
