The centre back has been a target of Cape Town City’s for some time now, with Benni McCarthy making no secret of the fact that he was interested in bringing him back to the Citizens, though there were questions regarding whether he would be leaving Bidvest Wits.

Now, after securing his exit from Braamfontein, the 33-year-old is believed to have made his way onto the wishlist of Absa Premiership newbies, Stellenbosch FC, who are looking to bolster their backline as they attempt to make sure they secure their position in the top-flight next season.

Johannes’ exit on Monday means that he is not bound by the rules of the transfer window and can sign for a new team at any point, just like Fagrie Lakay and Prince Nxumalo after the Clever Boys confirmed that they too had made their departures.

He left Cape Town City for greener pastures and I believe going to Stellenbosch will help the team a lot at least for a season.

apparently Benni wanted him but Comitis said no - Johannes must of burnt his bridge when he left to go to Wits. CTC was the only team where he got regular game time. a bit of a head case at times but i think Tinkler and Benni had him under control in their own special way.
