The Premier Soccer League executive committee has adjourned its meeting on Tuesday and issued an update – to all member clubs, not the public.

Following Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa’s announcement regarding football at the weekend, there’s been suspense all around about when exactly the 2019/20 season will resume and whether it will in fact be completed.

In his address, Mthethwa gave the greenlight for the PSL teams to start training, but ordered vigorous testing for the Coronavirus, which halted the season as back as mid-March and led to president Cyril Ramaphosa enforcing a lockdown.

Now, with the alert level being moved to 3 on Monday, and SAFA meeting with the PSL to discuss how play can resume, there is yet another meeting on the cards.

The Siya crew has seen the notice sent to all member clubs by acting CEO Mato Madlala inviting them to a board of governors meeting to discuss the following:

  • The resumption of the league, which entails the joint liaison committee report put together by a task team put together last month by both SAFA and the PSL
  • Covid-19 regulations as outlined by the government
  • Labour Relations Act
  • Players’ Contracts
  • Registrations
  • Sponsors
  • Collective Bargaining Agreements

Given the current state of affairs, Madlala urged all club chairman and CEOs – Kaizer Motaung of Kaizer Chiefs, John Comitis of Cape Town City, Stan Matthews, Farouk Kadodia, Chippa Mpengesi to name a few – to all attend Thursday’s BOG via video conference at 11am.

Reopening of schools in SA comes just after Boris Johnson's announce the same it's seems our government role models everything from England, without even thinking we follow the suits, soon soccer will resume in England we will follow on their foot steps, but I understand Youth League played a big role in opening schools because of this nutrition tender they were granted early this year, they forced to be paid without work done, or else open schools it was not on their plans, we know that, we do as England do.
