Bloemfontein Celtic players have been threatened by the club with non-payment of salaries at the end of the month, or face possible fines.
As reported by the Siya crew, Celtic players have yet to resume training, since their return from their match against Highlands Park at the weekend, as confirmed by sources close to the Mangaung outfit.
Following their 1-0 loss of their Absa Premiership match against the Lions of the North at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday, Celtic players have decided to stay away from training this week in protest against alleged club’s failure to pay their bonuses.
“We haven’t been training this week. Celtic players haven’t been to training since our return from the match against Highlands Park. We want our bonuses from the club,” an insider at the club confirmed.
Celtic won both their matches against Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs respectively, prior to losing to the Lions of the North this past weekend.
“The players haven’t received their bonuses for matches against Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs. We work hard and deliver on the field and the club isn’t fulfilling their promise. The players are afraid that they might not receive their bonuses as the season will be ending this coming weekend. It has happened before that the players would finish the season owed money by the club,” added the source.
The Siya crew has been informed that each Celtic player on the 18-man matchday squad gets R10 000 bonus per match for a win against ‘big clubs’, and takes home R2500 for a draw. The bonuses are usually calculated and paid after every three matches, as confirmed by informants inside the Celtic camp.
“We get R10 000 per player for a win against big teams like Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns. It’s R5000 for a win against teams like Polokwane City and others. We get paid R2500 for a draw. The last payment we received for bonuses was before we played against Highlands Park and it was R5 000 for our respective draws against Sundowns and Pirates. The club has called all the players to a meeting this morning (Tuesday) and threatening that we will not get our salaries at the end of the month and that we will be fined if we don’t resume training,” the source revealed.
Meanwhile, the Siya crew is in possession of a letter circulating with a Celtic letterhead, which reads as follows:
