His new coach is already showering him with praise after snapping him up this month, and now Kgosi Ntlhe has got to prove that he’s worth the hype in England…
The 25-year-old was confirmed as one of Scunthorpe United’s latest signing this month after he penned a one-year deal in North Lincolnshire, and having joined his new teammates in La Manga, Spain, Paul Hurst has revealed why he brought him on board to help in their promotion push.
The Irons will be looking to secure immediate promotion back into League One next season, and Hurst believes that the South African international is one player that can help them do that after they brought him in from Rochdale.
Speaking to Scunthorpe’s official website, the coach said, “I watched him last season and have brought him in as a left-back, but he can play centre-back… He’s not the tallest of players but he’s got an excellent leap on him. He’s competitive, quick, mobile and aggressive in terms of playing on the front foot.
“The early signs from him have been extremely positive. The players and myself have been impressed with him and hopefully that can continue.”
Hurst also believes that the experiences Ntlhe has picked up throughout his career can help them in their promotion push, praising him for his ‘infectious personality’ as he settles in with his new teammates.
He said, “He’s coming from the level above but he’s perhaps ready for a new challenge. I don’t think it’s about him coming here and thinking it’s going to be easy. He’s been at a club that at times have had to fight and did so last season.
“We’re going to need that at times too. Hopefully we can be a good team in League Two, but there will certainly be times when you have to fight and he’s shown he’s capable of that.”
“He has an infectious personality. He ticks all the boxes and fingers crossed he can be a good signing. You want the lads to feel at home, it’s important they get on with their team-mates, and it seems like a good group from that point of view.”
Ntlhe has already had a runout in his new club colours in a pre-season friendly, but will be hoping now to get the nod for a competitive debut when they face Swindon Town next month on matchday one.
