Percy Tau was left flabbergasted last night after receiving the first red card of his career, but he could smile at the end of the night as Club Brugge got the job done.

The 25-year-old was handed a starting berth by Philippe Clement once again this week as Brugge looked to book their spot in the playoff round of UEFA Champions League qualification, with the score sitting at 1-0 from the first leg in Belgium.
It wasn’t a great start for the Belgian giants against Dynamo Kyiv though, with the Ukrainians taking an early lead and Tau picking up his first yellow card in just the ninth minute.

In total there were six goals, nine yellow cards and two reds – one of which belonged to the Bafana Bafana international – in Kiev as Brugge managed to eventually win 4-3 on aggregate, meaning that they didn’t have to rely on their away goal advantage.

Meanwhile, there was another shock elsewhere as Austrian side, Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub, knocked out Swiss heavyweights, FC Basel, to set up a tie with Tau’s club for a spot in the group stages of this year’s UCL tournament. The loser, however, will head to the UEFA Europa League.

Tau’s red card means that he will have to miss the first leg away in Linz on August 20, but he will be available for selection for the crucial second leg on August 28 in Brugge as he looks to achieve his dream of playing the UCL proper.
