Last week it was confirmed that the 27-year-old would be playing in the Dutch Eredivisie next season after Sparta Rotterdam secured a 3-2 aggregate victory over De Graafschap, securing promotion to the top-flight after a strong campaign in the the Eerste Divisie.

Bafana are due to play Ghana in a pre-tournament friendly before the AFCON gets underway later in the month, as well as some other North African opponent, and Veldwijk will no doubt be looking to put himself in contention as the team for a starting berth on the opening game against Ivory Coast.

@mmaxongo I watched him play once. He is very slow, the Castro kind of a player and George koumantarakis. he is good as a target man not a ball player.
