John Comitis, the chairman of Cape Town City, has told the Siya crew that the club’s loanee Ayanda Patosi is expected to make his debut for his new Iranian club on Wednesday night.
The attacker’s first appearance for Esteghlal FC following his big-money move on transfer deadline day here in SA was delayed due to questions about whether he was of decent international quality.
Until this week, ‘Pato’ had not been registered – the Iranian FA awaiting proof that he would have played international football in the last two years.
Owen Da Gama revealed three days ago that he has had to send a letter to Iran to affirm that he had plans to call-up Patosi, but an injury prevented that from happening. The Highlands Park coach was Bafana Bafana caretaker in March 2017 when the national team took on Guinea-Bissau and Angola in friendly matches.
“It is all sorted now and he will make his debut on Wednesday night (against Pars Jam in the Persian Gulf Pro League). The FA received the papers they were looking for last night,” Comitis told the Siya crew.
The eligibility of Patosi would have cast doubt on a deal believed to be around R10-million between Esteghlal and City, who have loaned out the player for the remainder of the season with an option to be bought outright.
