A huge end squad decision is to be made regarding the future of an Orlando Pirates veteran who see his seven-and-a-half-year stay with the club come to an end.
With the 2018/19 season having come to an end for the Buccaneers, after thrashing Polokwane City 3-0 in their last match to finish second to Mamelodi Sundowns on the Absa Premiership log, the Siya crew has it on good authority that defender Thabo Matlaba has yet to have his contract with the Soweto giants extended.
The 31-year-old will see his contract with Bucs come to an end at the end of next month, and in the player’s own words in latest Soccer Laduma, edition 1123, he has been waiting on the club to either start the negotiations for a new contract or to release him.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, in edition 1120 of Soccer Laduma, the versatile player has been open to offers.
The Tembisa-born player’s agent, Abbie Rasimphi, said at the time, “There isn’t anything happening right now, but if anything comes from the club (Pirates), we will take it. But there’s nothing so far.”
Matlaba appeared to have fallen out of favour under coach Milutin Sredojevic, having made only seven league appearances all campaign.
The player has been with the Buccaneers since 2012, after joining from Free State Stars in 2012, and is one of the experienced members of the current squad.
