Following Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s controversial comments on the 2019 Copa America, two Brazil stars have hit out at the FC Barcelona forward.

Alves: Messi Is My Friend, But...

After being knocked out to the Selecao in the semi-final, the 32-year-old harshly criticised the match officials at the tournament, seemingly suggesting they were conspiring to have Brazil win the competition.

Having already been addressed by Dani Alves, Brazil boss Tite and even South America’s footballing body Conmebol, Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has also now had his say on the matter.

“When you lose you need to keep your head high and accept the defeat,” he told TMW.

“Argentina has had a great match against us, there have been mistakes by the referee and they can happen in every game.

“However, I have never seen Messi speak of corruption when Barcelona has received favours from the referee.”

Centre-back Thiago Silva was another who shared his views on the incident.

“The referee had a ridiculous performance, but we did not say anything. We must respect the story. We have five stars (for World Cups) and none have been stolen.”

Messi ‘Victim’ On Copa Altercation With Superstar

Brazil beat Peru 3-1 in the final on Sunday, while Argentina beat Chile in the third-place playoff on Saturday night.

I love Messi as a footballer but I think he really messed up this time. He didn't need to go public with his accusations unless he has proof considering that he seems to be loved by most Brazilian footballers generally, or at least they love his football. Even the way they respond to his accusations shows the respect they have for him, even though they view his comments as disrespecting their hard work. None of them has attacked him on a personal level or the Argentine national team.
