With Eden Hazard having completed a €100 million (R1.66 billion) transfer to Real Madrid, it has been claimed that Los Blancos' hierarchy view the Belgian superstar as the long-term replacement for club-record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last week, the 28-year-old brought an end to his seven-year stay with Chelsea, during which he made 352 appearances and lifted a total of six trophies, including two Premier League and two UEFA Europa League titles.

According to the Express, the former LOSC Lille star is set to officially become a Real player on 13 June, upon the completion of a medical.

The move is viewed as a huge step forward for Zinedine Zidane's side, which is currently in the process of a squad overhaul following a disappointing 2018/19 campaign that saw the LaLiga giants finish the season without a single piece of silverware.

According to Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur, Real's acquisition of Hazard is seen by the club's chiefs as the long-term solution for Ronaldo's departure to Juventus in July 2018.

"I expect him to play on the left because I know there has been a meeting in 2016 between Real Madrid and Hazard's people, where they explained to him that they saw him as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo playing on the left wing, where he's playing for Chelsea basically," Terreur said on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.

"That was their plan back then, but at that point, they didn't push for a move. That only really started last season."

Terreur also strongly suggested that the club would pull out all the stops to give Hazard a massive unveiling at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Yes, after the international games, I think they will do that Galactico presentation," he added.

"He's the first galactico the club have signed in five years so they will have to do that, sell out the Bernabeu to present the player.

"I think that's their plan, although the player is not aware of that yet. They will do it like that because they see Hazard as the new leader of the new Real Madrid."

Hazard is Real's first galactico signing since the club made James Rodriguez the most expensive Colombian footballer in the history of the game when they paid Monaco €76 million (R1.3 billion) after an excellent showing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Hazard is a different type of player to CR7, so this comparison is unnecessary. Let him be himself so that he can play to his own abilities.
