The Argentine took a bad knock to the face during Barca’s 1-0 win in the first leg of their quarter-final in midweek, during a collision with Smalling 30 minutes into the match.

Messi was helped by medics as blood appeared to gush from his nose, while there was also blood above his left eye.

Speaking in an interview, Smalling has claimed his clash with the 31-year-old was a mistake, saying they addressed what had happened after the game.

Casillas on Zidane

"Yeah, we spoke after (the game)," he told BBC Radio.

"I didn’t realise at the time actually that I obviously caught him like that, but after the game we had a brief chat and I said ‘yeah, it was an accident’.

"Suarez after as well, we had a good tussle and he just shook my hand after and said ‘good luck’.

"It’s nice when you can have the battle on the pitch and there’s respect after the game. Normally you’re just trying to do your best and enjoy the game."

Your game plan was poor and remember people watched you doing all this. You are like Ramos to Salah. You people don't know what soccer is about and if it was from your coach then tell him to prepare something he never meet b4. Barcelona is all about intertaining supporters not coming to damage other children 's career. You did that purposely. I support united in England but what you plan to do to other children is totally fulish
