With FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi another year older next month, a high-profile former teammate of his has insisted the five-time Ballon d'Or winner still has four good years left in him.

PSG Release Statement After Mbappe's Surprise Comments

The Argentine has been at the top of his game for more than a decade, and like all good things, his career will eventually come to an end.

Messi turns 32 years old late next month, but his ex-Blaugrana colleague Xavi Hernandez has insisted the forward still has a number of good years ahead of him.

Watch: Casillas on Zidane

"We always talk about the post-Messi era, but Leo has three or four good years left," he told Sport.

"At the top level, like now, because he looks after himself, he's incredibly professional, he's physically strong, a beast mentally.

"He's the No. 1 at everything."

PSG Transfer News: Six In, Six Out?

Messi's current contract with Barcelona expires 2021, but he is likely to sign yet another extension in the near future.

@smo - Players move from 1 club 2 another 4 more money or to more prestigious clubs for cup glory, or for game time if they feel they're not getting enough. Some move because of personal issues with the club or they're not getting along with the manager or things like that. I don't think players move from bigger clubs to smaller just for the feel of it. They can say that to the media, but there are always underlying reasons or dissatisfactions that make them move. In Messi's case people give none of these reasons or they don't give senseble reasons as to why he must move

@MaHlophe(N.W) @joemak The fact that what m saying is getting into u shows u do get my point. U just in denial. Bt u should ease up, guys. It's only football. I make my point u make yrs. No need to b personal. M saying La liga has become too easy for messi. Personal glory is his only motivation now. Let him go do his thing somewhere else n make us enjoy his talents in a different environment. Pep did it. Cr7 did it. Salah, firmino aguero bale, to name a few, hv all done it. Well he cnt b forced to move, not by me but i also cnt be forced to not say anything. Not by u guys..
