Following FC Barcelona's UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool last week, manager Ernesto Valverde has admitted superstar Lionel Messi is still trying to overcome the hurt.

Ronaldo Nazario Makes Messi Claim

The Catalans responded to last week's European disappointment with a 2-0 home victory over Getafe on Sunday evening, in what was a rather dull performance at the Camp Nou.

Although he was happy with the victory, boss Valverde admitted the team, and notably Messi, is still trying to get over what happened at Anfield last week Tuesday.

Casillas on Zidane

"For us, a victory was essential to get rid of the ghosts in our heads," hesaid, according to Sportskeeda.

"Everyone will bounce back, although at the beginning it's hard. We have the Copa del Rey final in mind.

"Messi is making an effort to overcome the bad taste in his mouth.

"We all had high hopes to be in the Champions League final, and we have to move forward."

Come on guys. we all know that when it comes to teams competing for league title, you go to England (EPL) and when it come to teams competing for Champions League Title you go to Spain. For the past seven years UCL has been going to Spain. just because EPL team are playing EUROPE Finals this year now you want to say they are the best teams over Barcelona/Madrid!!!!!

@Bongani Bright - I wouldn't be too sure about the ballon d'or. Virgil van Dijk is probably taking it this year if Liverpool wins champions league. I think ballon d'or voters are somewhat fed up of voting Messi or Ronaldo for the ballon d'or.

@Bob Martin - EPL teams have also been useless in the UCL for the past 10 years or so, but in those 10 years, I wouldn't have argued with anyone who said EPL is the best league, coz UCL performance is not an entire measure of how strong the league is. There are other details to be considered before before someone can say a particular league is the best. Hence still, I wouldn't argue with anyone who sees either La Liga or EPL as the best league, coz honestly I enjoy both leagues and I've understood why some would pick EPL as the best and some pick La Liga as the best.
