Following his three goals at the UEFA Nations League finals, Cristiano Ronaldo has closed his gap on the worldwide record goalscorer of all time, while his longstanding rival Lionel Messi is not in the top 10, which includes two Africans.

The Portugal captain won the Golden Shoe at the inaugural UEFA Nations League finals after taking his international tally to 88 strikes.

As a consequence, he now sits just 21 goals behind record international goalscorer Ali Daei. The former Iran and Bayern Munich forward netted an unprecedented 109 goals for his country between 1993 and 2006.

Ex-Real Madrid and Hungary forward Ferenc Puskas completes the top three after netting 84 international goals in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Zambian Godfrey Chitalu, who scored 79 goals at international level, makes the top five, according to FourFourTwo, while legendary Brazil striker Pele sits in seventh position with 77 goals for the Selecao.

Messi, meanwhile, took his tally to 67 goals for Argentina in their 5-1 win over Nicaragua last Friday.

However, he still trails behind the top 10 international goalscorers of all time – you can see the complete ranking, which includes another African, in the gallery above.
