There seems to be a huge amount of concern for Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United after the club was said to reach an agreement with an interim manager on Thursday.

Ronaldo Accused Of Messing Up Solskjaer's Plans

It has been claimed by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein that the Red Devils have reached an agreement with legendary German coach Ralf Rangnick to take over from caretaker coach Michael Carrick.

The 63-year-old, who will reportedly join United on a six-month contract until the end of the season and then take up a two-year consultancy role, is currently head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia.

Rangnick is famous for being one of the first people to implement "gegenpressing", a term that translates to "counter-pressing", which is a football philosophy premised on winning the ball back as soon as it has been lost.

The style has been successfully adopted and popularised by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds boss demanding that each and every single one of his players defends out of possession.

This aspect of play has become a cause of concern for United this season, and particularly Ronaldo, who has been criticised on many occasions for his lack of running when the Red Devils do not have the ball.

According to data and statistics website fbref, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ranks 293rd in the Premier League for the most pressures applied to an opponent (39), with only seven of those presses having been successful.

While he has been considered a player who cannot be dropped in his career to date, Rangnick's idea of the way football should be played could clash with United's highest-paid star.

Here are the best-paid players at United this season!

??I clearly remember that even when Messi was at Barca he was not running around but they were pressing on opponents not everyone must run when you press but position yourself well.

Ronaldo is not a pressing player. If you understand what gegenpressing is all about, then you can easily understand that Ronaldo doesn't fit that system of playing. If the new coach stays true to his philosophy, then Ronaldo will surely be in trouble. But most likely the coach will make sacrifices and adjustments to his philosophy to accommodate Ronaldo. So the journalist's observations and writings make very good sense, no need for people to be emotional
