Pitso Mosimane has tried not to hog the spotlight of Mamelodi Sundowns winning a record ninth Premier League title all on his own by paying tribute to his “proudly South African” technical team.

Downs, according to the head coach, has a bench and backroom staff made up of home grown experts in the game.

“I like my local guys here at Sundowns. We have got good local coaches. Sometimes I listen to them and sometimes I overule them. We have won when I have listened to them and the other way around. No man is an island,” Mosimane, who is assisted by Manqoba Mnqgithi and Wendell Robinson told the media. “It is easy for me to go outside (of the country) and look for a decorated name. I want these guys. Sometimes I want to talk Sesotho or Zulu because English sometimes can be a problem. It helps to deal with players from the township as well because they are very difficult to coach. Sundowns has evolved.”

Mosimane has throughout the season also made special mention of fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and video analyst Musi Matlaba and did so again following their league triumph away to Free State Stars last weekend.

Downs have managed four championships – as well as a CAF Champions League tittle – since Mosimane arrived in December 2012 and have done so with Mnqgithi the second in command. Robinson, who also doubles up as a goalkeeper coach, took the place of Rulani Mokwena, when the the latter joined Orlando Pirates in a similar role two seasons ago.
