Spanish giants FC Barcelona will reportedly activate Antoine Griezmann's whopping €120 million release clause on Friday before making him one of their top earners.

The Catalan giants will reportedly pay the full release clause, which dropped from €200 million (R3.1 billion) to €120 million (R1.9 billion) on 1 July, after attempts to negotiate a different fee structure or include players in the deal failed, according to Marca.

Atletico Madrid had refused to negotiate after Griezmann did not turn up for their start of pre-season, leaving the Blaugrana no choice but to pay the whole amount.

It has been claimed they will arrive at LaLiga's offices on Friday to complete the payment and are keen to unveil the player over the weekend, before the club's first-team squad return for pre-season on Monday.

Griezmann will reportedly put pen to paper on a five-year deal on Friday, which will reportedly see him earn €17 million (R267 million) a year, according to L'Equipe.

Should he join Barca, the 28-year-old will be leaving Atletico after five years, during which he made 257 appearances, scoring 133 goals and assisting another 50 strikes.

He has helped the Rojiblancos lift one UEFA Europa League title, one UEFA Super Cup and one Supercopa de Espana during his stint in Madrid.

Should Griezmann's transfer be confirmed, it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona will still have enough money to also sign Neymar, who has been heavily linked with a switch from Paris Saint-Germain in this window.
