Ernst Middendorp made many changes to Kaizer Chiefs’ XI when they faced Golden Arrows last night, and the club have confirmed why a couple of them were ‘forced’.

The Glamour Boys remained seventh in the Absa Premiership following a 1-1 draw with Abafana Bes’thende on Tuesday evening, with Kgotso Moleko rescuing a point for the Amakhosi with a second half equaliser after Arrows had taken a first half lead.

Chiefs were without Khama Billiat, who had been in a car accident just a couple of days prior, though the club explained that he was given a break due to a ‘stiff thigh’.

They also spoke about Kabelo Mahlasela, with their official website saying, “Some of these changes were forced as both Kabelo Mahlasela and Khama Billiat are out injured. Mahlasela hurt his foot in the first half against Chippa, while the Zimbabwean has a stiff thigh muscle and is therefore given a break to fully recover.”

Next up for Chiefs is an away clash against Bloemfontein Celtic – though violence last month means it will be played in Polokwane – at the weekend, and it remains to be seen whether Billiat will be back available or if they are playing it safe with the Nedbank Cup final on the horizon next month.
