It was a tough weekend for Kaizer Chiefs in terms of their youth ranks, with their counterparts at Jomo Cosmos giving them something to think about…
The Glamour Boys’ senior side weren’t in action this past weekend due to the international break, and while their MultiChoice Diski Challenge team romped to a 7-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic, things were harder for their younger groups.
Chiefs’ U15s, U17s and U19s all took on Jomo Cosmos in the Gauteng Development league, and it was just their U17s – who are now undefeated in seven games and have won four on the bounce – that picked up a win.
The club gave some small match reports on their official website to sum up the fortunes of their youth ranks over the weekend, which read:
U15s - Cosmos 2 – 1 Chiefs
“Despite scoring an early goal through Bafana Ryan Zitha, the Chiefs U15 team were unable to hold out for all three points as they lost 2-1 to Jomo Cosmos U15s. The loss saw the Chiefs U15 team lose for the second game in succession prior to this run they were undefeated in five games (W3 D2).”
U17s - Cosmos 1 – 2 Chiefs
“The Kaizer Chiefs U17 team gave themselves a great chance of catching log leaders Jomo Cosmos when they defeated them 2-1 at the weekend. it means that Chiefs have cut Cosmos’ lead to six points, with the Amakhosi having played two games less. Markus Jordan scored in the 45th minute and Rivaldo Malema in the 70th to secure victory for the Chiefs U17s, who won their third game in succession and are undefeated in their last six league games.”
U19s - Cosmos 2 – 0 Chiefs
“The Kaizer Chiefs U19 team were defeated 2-0 against their counterparts from the Cosmos U-19 team in their Gauteng Development League clash at the weekend. The team were hoping to build on their result from the previous weekend when they defeated Highlands Park but were unable to do so. This result means that they were unable to close the gap on log leaders Bidvest Wits.”
