Despite his struggles at club level due to lack of game-time, Kaizer Chiefs’ Virgil Vries has earned a call-up to Namibia's senior national team.

Following the signing of Daniel Akpeyi by Chiefs from Chippa United, as well as the emergence of Bruce Bvuma, Vries lost his place in Chiefs’ first team under coach Ernst Middendorp.

Vries has been called up to Namibia’s squad that is set to prepare for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia, which is scheduled for March 23.

Vries will be joined in the Brave Warriors squad from the PSL by fellow goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva of Golden Arrows, as well as few other Mzansi-based Namibian players, including Bidvest Wits’ Deon Hotto and Riaan Hanamub of Jomo Cosmos, among others.
