Lebohang Maboe, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Thulani Serero – just three names that came to mind for Kaizer Chiefs’ Arthur Zwane following his return from international duty.

Zwane, a former Bafana Bafana midfielder himself, was called up by Molefi Ntseki this month for the game against Zambia to be his assistant coach on camp, and while South Africa’s games were eventually postponed due to the xenophobic attacks happening in the country, ‘10111’ was happy to be a part of it.
The 45-year-old Amakhosi legend, who is currently Chiefs’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge coach, got the call from the new South African national team coach as he prepared for his first match in charge – something Zwane has described as a ‘mammoth task’.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website this week about his experience, Zwane said, “I am glad to have had a period of serving the country. Any form of international exposure gained is appreciated. I observed the mammoth task for national team coaches and technical team to coordinate and prepare a team in a week. It was great to see the way the players responded and interacted with the coach. I am grateful for the opportunity and appreciate the support from everyone.”
“A player like Lebohang Maboe played for us here at Chiefs Academy. Then there is Thulani Hlatshwayo and Thulani Serero whom I have known from early days in their careers while still playing in the dusty streets of Soweto. There was Reyaad Pieterse and Keagan Dolly whom I first met through the Nike youth projects.

“We held good practice sessions. I immediately observed the wealth of talent we have in this country.”
Zwane has now returned to work at Naturena ahead of this weekend’s clash with Polokwane City as Chiefs look to build on their 7-1 thumping of Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend.
