UEFA updates its rankings for European club competitions after every round of Champions League and Europa League football, and has now published the latest version, with the 2018/19 UCL round of 16 stage officially done and dusted.

The table is calculated based on each club's ranking points amassed over the past five seasons. These are, in turn, calculated on how far a team has advanced in European competitions, with points from the Champions League having a bigger weighting difference than points collected from the Europa League.

Los Blancos, who won the past three editions of the competition, still sit at the summit of the table, despite their bruising 4-1 defeat to a youthful Ajax Amsterdam side in the second leg of their round of 16 tie, which saw them succumb to a 5-3 aggregate defeat altogether.

Due to their successful clinching of the past three UCL titles, Real are still the most dominant team in Europe and enjoy an 18-point lead over joint second-placed Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants, who suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the last 16 stage, occupy joint second spot with LaLiga giants FC Barcelona.

With the Blaugrana having advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition, courtesy of a 5-1 aggregate scoreline against Olympique Lyon, the Spanish giants are poised to overtake Bayern in second spot and could go on to knock rivals Real off the summit of the ranking, depending on their progression in the rest of the 2018/19 Champions League campaign.

Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid follow in fourth spot with 127 points, while Serie A giants Juventus, who secured a comprehensive 3-0 second-leg victory over Los Rojiblancos courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick, complete the five highest ranked teams with 122 points, ahead of Sevilla (104 points) and Manchester City (103 points).

Paris Saint-Germain, who failed to advance past the last-16 stage of the competition for the third consecutive season, appear in eighth position, after bowing out to Premier League side Manchester United, who are not in the top 10.

The Spanish top flight has the most representatives in the top 10 with four, followed by England's Premier League, which has two teams in it. The rest of the top 10 slots are made up of teams from France, Germany Italy and Portugal.

Note: The rankings determine the seeding of each club in all UEFA competition draws. Clubs' coefficients are determined by the sum of all points won in the previous five years, plus 20% of the association coefficient over the same period.

Which club do you think will win the Champions League this season? Which clubs are you hoping draw one another in the quarter-finals? Have your say in the comments section below.
