Concacaf has confirmed that Pieter, who was 31 years old, died after suffering a suspected heart attack at the team hotel in Haiti on Monday.

Following news of the shot-stopper's passing, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani led praise for the former Centro Dominguito goalkeeper and gave his condolences to his friends and family.

"Deeply shocked to learn about the passing of Curacao's goalkeeper Jairzinho Pieter, an extraordinary homegrown player," Montagliani said in an official statement via Twitter

"Our thoughts and condolences to his family, teammates and the FFK."

Despite the tragedy, the Curacao Football Association has confirmed that the match the team had been in camp for would go on as scheduled, and the side played out a 1-1 draw in their Concacaf Nations League clash with the Haitians.

Prior to the match, Curacao's starting goalkeeper Eloy Room posted an emotional tribute on social media, in which he described Pieter as a legend and a brother.

"You always told me how proud you were of me and how you looked after it to stand on the field together again, I was glad to see the smile on your face when I brought you gloves. You will always be a legend in my heart! Rest in peace, brother," Room posted in a tweet.

Pieter made 12 international appearances for Curacao between 2013 and 2019, and represented his nation at the 2017 and 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup tournaments.

We, at Soccer Laduma, send our condolences to the family and friends of Jairzinho Pieter following his sad passing.
