After Karim Benzema was found guilty in court for his role in an attempted blackmail scandal, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF) has revealed whether or not it will impact the striker's international career.

It was confirmed on Wednesday by a court in Versailles that the 33-year-old will be handed a one-year suspended prison sentence and a hefty fine for his role in the attempted blackmail of his ex-Les Bleus colleague Mathieu Valbuena in 2015.

Benzema was adjudged to have played the role of a middleman between a group of schemers and the former Marseille midfielder, with his involvement in the scandal leading to a six-year exile from international football.

With it previously thought that a guilty verdict could result in yet another banishment from national team selection, Noel Le Graet, president of the FFF, has now insisted it will not change anything.

"I do not know what Karim and his lawyers will decide, if they are going to appeal, but as it concerns the FA, there is no change," he told L'Equipe.

"He remains available for selection, all whilst regretting the situation. He did not play for several years with the French national team. This sanction changes nothing for me. He remains available for selection.

"Even if he doesn't appeal, for me, it changes nothing. He has the right to work. We can make a mistake, be sentenced and still get back to work.

"I am happy with the player. He is performing well, he is conducting himself perfectly well. It is not a question that the Federation takes a more severe decision than the justice department.

"If Didier wants to select him, the FA will not oppose. There is no obstacle that prevents him from continuing to play for the French national team."

Great answer Mr President. Benzema was in exile for 6 years that's punishment enough and he's your greatest striker currently why not select him for WC!
