Record five-time Fifa World Cup winners Brazil suffered a surprise defeat to Peru in their friendly on Wednesday morning, but can draw positives from the long-awaited debut of one Vinicius Junior. The 19-year-old, who joined Los Blancos for a reported fee of €46 million (R746 million) last season, came on as a second-half substitute for Richarlison, and is touted for a big future with the Selecao.

Fellow South American superpowers Argentina also handed a debut to one of their youngsters, giving Boca Juniors midfielder Alexis Mac Allister his first start. The 20-year-old, who is currently on loan at Boca from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, played 65 minutes as La Albiceleste recorded a comfortable 4-0 friendly win over Mexico.

Zimbabwean defender MacClive Phiri, who plays for Highlanders, also made his first foray into international football when he made his debut against Somalia last week. The 20-year-old did not feature in the return leg, but will likely see more game time with his national team in the future.
