While there is plenty of anticipation ahead of Erling Haaland's official arrival at Manchester City, a shock clause appears to have been included in his contract in England.
Earlier this week, the Premier League leaders announced the signing of the 21-year-old Borussia Dortmund talisman on a five-year deal.
City are understood to have triggered his release clause of €60 million (R1 billion), which became active ahead of the coming transfer window, making Haaland the Premier League club's third-most expensive acquisition of all time.
According to German publication Bild, the forward's contract in England will also include a buyout clause, one that will only, however, become active in 2024.
It is claimed Haaland will be able to be signed from City in two years' time for a fee of €150 million (R2.5 billion), leaving many believing that the Norway international wants the option of being able to leave the club should he desire an exit 24 months into his stay.
Haaland joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, and has since scored an impressive 85 goals in 88 matches across all competitions for BVB.
Here is where Haaland will rank among the 11 highest-paid players at City next season:
