Capitec together with Soccer Laduma found a way to reward and celebrate everyday South Africans, no matter what bank they do their banking with. Every month a winning letter gets published in an edition of Soccer Laduma, however, we have decided to also share the stories of others who have sent in their inspiring letters.

Sello Jonathan is big on saving money and he has share some of the tips that he has used in his daily life to help those who are also looking for ways to save their pennies. He has emphasised that money should be spent on things that are really needed and not merely on anything that you see.

“My most valuable financial tip is to spend when needed not wanted. If it serves me as a need I will buy it and if it serves as an addition to what I have I don't see the need to buy it. I always save money that way, this too has made me aware of my financial status of what I really want and what I can afford at a particular time.

“I strongly believe that spending less on clothing and other entertainment sustains my life financially and by doing so I am able to save a whole lot more than I can save when buying expensive stuff. Saving for me is valuable, it's one of the strongest things I am good at. The little I save, I save it towards something that I really need. This year's goal is to save enough to register a company.

“Making sound decisions about your finance and how you spend it requires one to look at today and their tomorrow. Today - what they don't have at present and tomorrow - what they wish to have.

“These tips are valuable, especially the today tip. This tip makes one aware that spending without a vision is hopeless and worthless, the tomorrow tip helps in assuring you have the saving mentality and start building yourself financially. That way one can realise the importance of saving and what it means to save. I have learned a valuable lesson that saving is vital for one, and we should prioritize and sacrifice something in order to gain for tomorrow.”
