Following Joachim Low's shock announcement that he will no longer be calling up three experienced superstars to the German national team, one of the axed players has responded to being told he will no longer play for his country.

The 10 Top Goalscorers In All Competitions This Season Revealed

The Germany boss revealed on Tuesday that Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller will no longer be contention to play for Die Mannschaft.

Taking a day to gather his thoughts, Bayern Munich's Muller was the first to publicly address his axing from the squad, saying he is unhappy with how the situation was handled by Low and the German Football Association.

"Of course, I was surprised by the decision of the coach," he said in a video on Instagram, according to the Daily Mirror.

"A national team coach has to make sporting decisions, I don't question that. But the longer I think about it, the more I'm angry about the way this has happened.

"Mats, Jerome and I are still capable of playing football on the highest international level.

"We have had a long and – most of the time – successful career with the DFB, and I think it's not a classy way if prefabricated statements from the DFB are published shortly after we learn about the coach's decision.

"I think this has nothing to do with appreciation. I was always proud to wear the jersey, I've given everything, I want to thank you for your support, it was an incredible journey, etc."

Muller represented Germany on 100 occasions, scoring 38 goals and winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup along the way.

Muller can be upset if he wants to but him and others are getting slower and age is not on their side. That's reality. Germany is building for the future, with Euro 2020 and world cup 2022 in mind.
