VAR should be audible like his rugby friend TMO
Football has followed into the footsteps of rugby and cricket- attempting to minimize human errors- by introducing a video referee.
Rugby and cricket have been using this set of technology for quite some time. With the Video Assisant Referee [VAR] still new in football- nature dictates that- it should be criticized as everyone still getting used to it. VAR was supposed to be the second if not third set of eyes for the officials to take a correct decision. But that has not been the case- as like before the introduction of this system- there is still a thin line between a correct and bad decisions in the game.
The controvesial VAR has the world talking in the past months. Confederation of African Football [CAF] has tested the waters in the Champions league final- and things went pearshaped- amid a VAR decision. With the Afcon tournament on the horizon- and VAR decision final- Caf must be happy with the controversy that comes with this technological referee.
Like any other system VAR can be improved. Television Match Official [TMO] of rugby and VAR might be classified as one but these system are not too identetical. TMO has a human skill that VAR lacks- the rugby system is more audible. Everyone wants to know whats the VAR officals are saying. Mic the referee and let everyone hear whats been said.
