No games in hand in the new calender
The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has been toying with- reverting back to a February to November calender- for quite some time and can now breath a sigh of relief since CAF came to their rescue.
Caf has brought foward it's calender year to August to May which aligns with the PSL fixtures. South African teams barely had a pre-season with their August to May fixtures which oposed that of Caf. Congested fixtures that led to PSL teams participating in continental competitions to play less games than other teams in the league. With Caf and PSL seasons now running concurently there will no longer be 'games in hand' scenarios.
The previous Caf season was a nightmare for leagues that used European calender. Although several countries in the continent was following the Caf's season- many were facing hiccups in attempt to catch up. Botswana, Lesotho, Algeria, Tanzania, Swaziland, Burundi, Rwanda, Egypt, Mauritania, Morocco, Cote d'Ivore, Namibia, Dr Congo and Egypt used the European calender and it was a given that these countries will forever face difficulties.
A very few leagues across the continent were in line with the Caf calender. Now that Caf has moved the Europen way- registered squads in the league will now take part in Caf competetions. Previously- teams would release players in their domestic league end of the season- only to realise that their new recruits are not eligible to play in continental competions.
