An African giant has reportedly submitted an urgent request to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) for the CAF Confederation Cup final to not be staged after they were eliminated from the competition without playing their semi-final.

RS Berkane are scheduled to meet Egyptian giants Zamalek in this season's edition of the two-legged CAF Confederation Cup final on 12 and 19 May, but that match-up is now seemingly under threat.
Berkane’s progression to the tournament decider came after CAF awarded them 3-0 victories in both legs of their semi-final clash against Algerian outfit USM Alger.
The semi-final encounters between the two north African sides did not take place because of the kit Berkane wanted to play in.

The Botola Pro side had an outline of the nation of Morocco, with the region of Western Sahara included in it, on its jerseys, and the reigning tournament champions were not willing to play them because of this.
CAF had approved Berkane's kits before the season kicked off, and subsequently awarded 3-0 victories to the Moroccan side because, ahead of the first leg, Algerian authorities refused to give them back the kits they had confiscated from the team upon their arrival, while Alger refused to take to the pitch for the second leg due to the same kits being worn.
The Algerian giants, through lawyer Arnaud Constant, are now believed to have submitted a request to CAS that the final be halted until the court renders a definitive conclusion on the case.

According to La Gazette du Fennec, in the file submitted to CAS, Alger included emails exchanged with CAF director of competitions Emad Shenouda, which state that CAF had, in fact, given the green light for the kits the Algerian Football Federation provided to their opponents for the first leg as an alternative playing strip to those they brought with them.
